This week I began working on the feature article that will be included in my mindfulness magazine. At this stage of production, I am focusing on creating the actual written content that will go inside the magazine before I begin placing everything into the final layouts. I wanted the article I included to match the calm and natural theme I have been developing through my photography, especially the flower images I recently took. Because of this, I focused on writing about mindfulness in everyday life and how small moments of calm can make a difference.
While writing the article, I tried to keep the tone calm and reflective so it matches the overall style of the magazine. I also kept the language simple and clear so the article would be easy to read. I thought about how the text might appear on the page later, so I wrote enough content to fill a feature article spread, but I am not deciding the exact layout yet.
I included the feature article text below as part of my production process and will be placed into the magazine layout as I create my magazine.

Slow Down: Finding Calm in Everyday Moments By: Jon Kabat-Zinn
Life can feel fast and overwhelming, especially when there is always something to do or somewhere to be. School, activities, and daily responsibilities can make it difficult to slow down and focus on the present moment. Mindfulness is a way to step back from that constant pressure and pay attention to what is happening right now.
Mindfulness does not have to be complicated. It can start with something simple, like noticing your breathing or paying attention to your surroundings. Taking a few minutes to slow down can help reduce stress and make it easier to focus on everyday tasks.
Spending time in nature is one of the easiest ways to practice mindfulness. Looking closely at flowers, plants, and other natural details encourages you to slow down and focus on small things that might normally be ignored. Paying attention to colors, shapes, and textures can help create a sense of calm and balance.
Mindfulness can also be practiced during everyday activities. Listening carefully to music, taking a quiet walk, or sitting still for a few minutes can help clear your mind. These small moments of calm can make a difference over time.
Practicing mindfulness regularly can help improve concentration and reduce stress. It encourages people to slow down and become more aware of their thoughts and surroundings. Even short moments of mindfulness can help create a sense of peace during busy days.
Mindfulness is not about being perfect or completely relaxed all the time. It is about learning to pause and appreciate the present moment. By slowing down and paying attention, it becomes easier to feel calm and balanced in everyday life.
I also decided to present my feature article as if it were written by Jon Kabat-Zinn because in my research I discovered that he is a well-known figure in mindfulness. His focus on staying present and living intentionally fits with the calm and natural theme of my magazine. Using a recognizable author also makes my magazine feel more realistic and professional.
Overall, writing the feature article helped move my production forward because I now have one of the main pieces of content ready for my magazine. In the next stage of production, I will begin placing the article into my layouts and deciding how the images and text will work together on the page.
